Blenheim is one of the great palaces of Britain. It was given by Queen Anne to Sir John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough after his military defeat of the forces of Louis XIV at Blenheim in Bavaria in 1704.
Winston Churchill, though not a direct descendent in the Marlborough line, was born here and also proposed to his wife on the grounds of Blenheim.
The palace has extensive grounds initially designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and later modified by the famous landscape designer, Capability Brown.
