Suzie Yazzie lived in Monument Valley. She was a legendary weaver, storyteller and icon of the Tribal Park. She died in 2013. This photo was taken in May, 2003. While visiting with her in her hogan, she mentioned she had a rug to sell, one that she had kept on a table for many years. She said it wasn't one of her best rugs. It was round. We had never seen a round Navajo rug. We proudly show her rug in our home and love telling the story of meeting her. I've kept my eyes open for round Navajo rugs and still haven't found any.

A wonderful portrait, and the story that goes with it, too.
