This one makes me laugh. There were mergansers in Victoria BC where we lived 30 years ago. They had a tuft of feathers on their heads. Our daughter, when she was born, had little tufts of hair on her ears, so we nicknamed her Maya Merganser for a few years. (Luckily it was a baby thing and she didn't have the indignity of hairy ears as a child or teenager.)
