Mackinac Island & Fort Michilmackinac 22

There seems to be more local, hand crafted souvenirs creeping back into shops, although much of what is still available are cheap and obscure items made in China.

Most appreciated is the increase in Native American items in the past 2-3 years. It's a wonder why this work hasn't appeared sooner. There's always been a demand for Native American crafts. Consider Navajo rugs, Eskimo carvings, Pueblo pottery or Hopi Kachinas. There's certainly room for art from Michigan and Ontario's Ojibiwas, Odawas and Chippewas. Their traditional designs with native flowers in beads, porcupine quills or with embroidery are lovely.
