There are annual world class sailboat races from Chicago to Mackinac Island (across Lake Michigan) and from Port Huron to Mackinac City (across Lake Huron.) We've been on the island for the arrival of boats in both races. There's quite a party atmosphere around the docks at the end of the 2-3 day race.
