Grand Canyon National Park 20

People, especially young folks, gather at sunrise and sunset on the far reaches of the rock outcroppings that extend out from the rim.

The mornings are cold, but the thrill of seeing the eastern sky transition through its pastel colors until the first ray of light appears over the horizon, make the venture most worthwhile. People from all around the world will sit together in silence respecting the magic of the moment. It's all held in until that first ray appears. Then the ooohs and aaahs join other exclamations of amazement and joy. It doesn't take long to watch the light spread over the canyon, first highlighting the ridge tops and then the deeper reaches of the canyon.
Sunset is different. Everyone gathers for the treat of seeing the change of light and the growth of the shadows, but what everyone came for is to see the very bright flash of green light when the sun's last ray disappears below the western horizon. Some say they saw it. Others say they missed it. It really doesn't matter. Being there is what counts. These are moments that will never be forgotten whether or not the green flash was seen.
