DSC_6771 Cizhou wares of the Song dynasty.jpg

The Jizhou kiln was located in present day Yonghe village of Ji'an, Jiangxi province.
It started producing black glazed wares in the Song dynasty and became an important
kiln site in southern China. Besides plain black glaze, Jizhou kilns also produce wares
in hare's fur glaze and tortoise shell glaze. Other decorative techniques include carving
and incising or putting a piece of leaf or papercut into various patterns under the glaze
before firing. The piece so produced would retain the leaf or papercut decor after firing.
