Zhang Daoxing, a native of Hebei, now serves as Director of the China Artists Association.
He is also an officer of the People's Liberation Army and an artist in the Political Department
of th Navy, hence he is known as the "Army painter". His early work is significantly influenced
by the New Literati wave, which often borrow the Ancient Cinese literary works as it's source of
inspiration. Zhang is especially fond of poems from the Tang dynasty, and often uses horses as
the theme of his paintings. Figures Inspired by the Poem of Li He is one such work.
