Edinburgh’s “Royal Mile”
is the main thoroughfare of the “Old Town”. It starts
at the Castle and runs down to Holyrood Palace, a
distance of one “Scots mile” long, which is equivalent
to 1•81 kilometres, 1•12 miles, 320 falls or 8 Scots furlongs.
The dark stone steeple (on the centre left) is part of the “Tron Kirk”,
a former North-West parish (there are three other parishes in
Edinburgh) church, which is now empty and closed to the public.
