Sydney Sun 26

Happy Australia day to all!
As per usual at this time of year I compose an Australia related rhyme.
Buderim rain

Thirteen months ago, I got a rain gauge as a gift
and kept accurate records, through which I now sift.
It’s located in Buderim (on our courtyard fence)
where it’s easy to get at (which makes good sense)

Because Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring
I had to take a reading and empty the thing
and then, like a devoted amateur meteorologist
I recorded the findings (in mils) on a special list.

Early on our drains, were put to the test
as rainfall totals here were up with the best
and after the first quarter came and went
our rainfall was up, on average, by seventy five percent.

By the end of the year we had thirty percent more
than the average, of all, of the years gone before,
so it seems that we were quite fortunate over here
as we maintained that lead until the end of the year.

Nationally it was our fifty second driest of years,
that’s about four hundred millimetres of rainfall in arrears,
and although this year hasn’t started off that well,
we can hope and pray for more; only time will tell…

by Keith Collicoat, Buderim 24 January 2014

Rainfall, in Buderim, over the last 48 hours was 2•5 mm.
During the same period last year we had 86•4 mm.
