the becak (a cycle rickshaw) began
being used in Jakarta around 1936, and were considered to be an
icon of the capital city until they were banned (in Jakarta), during
the1970s. Despite the ban, many becak still operate in some parts
of Jakarta today, and there are many in use on the streets of Medan.
