Paris Opéra was designed by
Charles Garnier in a style, which he described (when asked “What is
this?”), as “Napoléon Trois”. It is considered today as a fine example of
the beaux-arts design method and emblematic of its era and those who
created it. Construction began in 1861 and it was formally opened in 1875.
