one gate (the gate at the
Kiel Canal end) of the lock at Brunsbüttel, Germany was closed when we
entered the lock, then once all boats were tied up inside the lock, the gate,
which closes the lock, came out from the port side (northern side) of the
wall of the lock to isolate the lock from the water in the Elbe. That’s it in
the middle of today’s photo, coming out from behind the container ship.
