horses are prominent in
the Elqui valley. They first came to Chile with Pedro de Valdivia
and a Chilean breed (Corralero) became a true breed, with its
own registry, in the 1890s. The Corralero is a small (they rarely
exceed 15 hands), surefooted and dependable breed, which
have refined heads with small ears and dilated nostrils, thick
muscular necks and wide chests. It is used in Chilean rodeo,
ranching and for pleasure. These horses might be Corraleros.
