A Remarkable History
A letter dated February 1871 to the Board of Education stated that
it was disappointing to see that a number of children in the Banana District
were growing up without an education.
The Board's reply was that it would supply a teacher if a suitable building
was provided and that part of the teacher's salary was paid by the community.
With these terms met, the school commenced in September 1871.
Scholars paid the princely sum of 6' a week for the privilege.
