There was a piece of tape on the leading edge of the tail rotor blades that had to be there or you couldn't fly it. You also had to grab each main rotor blade and push or pull it to align it properly with the lead/lag damper. (Or something like that.) I remember the first time my instructor picked it up to a hover. I was amazed that we were stationary three feet above the ground. This picture brings a tear to my eye.

Early TH-55A with small tail rotor and white paint on the tail boom adn tail boomo struts. Later ones had orange paint on the tail boom and struts. They also had wider chord tail rotor blades for less squirrelly handling. Phot looks to be at Wolters Main Heliport.
