On September 27, 2001, the garden world lost a giant when Dr August Kehr died. The Southeastern Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, of which he was a valued member, has begun work on choosing a site for a garden in Augie's memory. On January 4, 2001, the first meeting was held at St John's in the Wilderness Church, Hendersonville North Carolina, to discuss the plans and view potential sites on the church grounds.
