The open book on the table is an older manuscript. The men around the table are copying parts of it onto home made bamboo paper, as messages to the spirits. Later in the ceremony, these messges are read out, then burned, as means of sending them to the heavens. The script is Chiese, although i understand the language is Yao Mun.
