Saturday, Sept. 25 -- It was raining when we left Naples, but the sun came out by the time we arrived in Positano. |
We got off the bus and walked down the road to the left into town. |
 La Caravella apartment house. |
Our apartment on the first floor. Kitchen, dining, and sitting area on the bottom level. Bedroom and bathroom up the stairs. |
Looking out our balcony doors at the beach. |
The view of town from our balcony. |
Pierre's favorite spot on the balcony, |
from where he took some amazing photos of the clouds. |
In the mornings, we'd explore the town and do our shopping. |
The deli up the short flight of stairs had great veggie & seafood salads. The deli at the bottom, left made its own salami. |
A small grocery store below the church sold local wines, limoncellos, |
 and other basics. |
Looking up at the church from near the grocery store. |
The church was very pretty inside, |
and had a Byzantine icon of the "Black Madonna." |
 Here's where Pierre got a haircut around mid-week. |
Mostly, though, we hung out on the beach. |
Pierre constructed small towers of pebbles. |
 |
The water was still comfortably warm. |
The view of Positano from the beach. |
When we got hungry, we'd leave our towels on our beach chairs (paid for the day) and go up to the apartment for lunch. |
Pierre waving from his favorite spot on the balcony. |
La Caravella is built right against the stone cliffs. |
The corridor in back of the apartment house, with the rock face on the right. |
To get a little exercise, Kathleen walked up to the other bus stop above town, higher up the mountain. Heading through town ... |
Looking back at the ramp that goes down to the pier for transporting supplies up from the boats. |
A stretch of clothing shops. Positano is famous for its linen. |
Local shops also sell embossed ceramic tiles. |
A narrow stairway down from the road. |
Getting up to the higher levels of houses. |
Many buildings in Positano have covered domes of sand on their roofs as insulation. |
 Really high now. |
 The last stretch. |
The upper bus stop on the coast road. |
The roads are narrow with many blind curves. Drivers rely on parabolic mirrors. |
Having an aperitif before dinner. Who knew "mojito" was Italian? |
Saturday, Oct. 2, heading to Piazza dei Mulini to meet our driver. |
Piazza dei Mulini, the last point where vehicles are permitted. |
