New balcony, new view. The Grand Centara near Ao Nang, Krabi province. |
 Our room |
The Centara Grand is located in an isolated cove, up against huge limestone cliffs. The only ways in/out are by boat or walking |
At low tide, sometimes the boats were grounded (despite revving of engines and the best efforts of the staff.) |
So people waded around the point into Ao Nang. |
After shopping or eating in town, we would walk back. First along this promenade. |
Pierre bought boiled peanuts from this vendor. |
Then, through this row of massage huts and beach bars. |
At high tide, wading wasn't possible. So we had to climb over the hill, first passing the monkey gauntlet. |
Pierre shared some of his peanuts with this monkey. |
There were others in the trees behind her. |
 |
Once the monkeys were distracted by other tourists, we could start the trek along the wooden path. |
The stairs were not in the best shape. |
And we were climbing in flip flops. |
The temperatures were in the 90s. |
The humidity was pretty high too. |
Did I mention it was hot? |
Finally, we reached the top! Looking back down towards Ao Nang beach. |
Then all we had to do was climb down the other side. |
We arranged two day trips, while we were in Krabi. The first was an all-day speed boat trip to the Phi Phi islands. |
 |
First, we (and every other tourist in Thailand) stopped at Bamboo Island for some relaxing time on the beach. |
Then, the boat took us through some spectacular limestone island formations, including sites used in the movie, The Beach. |
We stopped for snorkeling in this bay, then anchored for more beach time. |
Another day, we took a half-day trip inland to do some kayaking through caves. |
We paddled from sun-dappled caverns |
 into pitch-black limestone caves. |
At one point, we got out of the kayaks to walk through a dry cave |
where there were ancient drawings. |
The guide told us the artists had used rubber tree latex to bind their paints to the walls and ceilings. |
Time, dampness, (and probably modern human contact) had damaged some of the drawings. |
The rest of the group had signed up for a full day, so we and these English girls paddled back to the boat launch. |
We had a visitor on our balcony that evening. The jungle around the hotel is a national park. |
 Another beautiful sunset |
