My Dad, Hugh, passed away early morning,
Sunday, May 14th, 2006.
My first uploads to Pbase were in 2006 just weeks before he passed away.
I did that so he could see some of my images online.
He had been telling me to do that for some time, and I just wanted
him to know that I finally did it.
He taught me about photography
when I was quite young, and without his interest
and love and support, I probably would not be a
photographer today. Just wanted to let you know.
I was very thankful that he was able to see this gallery
on PBase several times before he passed away. I think he
was very proud of it.
My first memories of photography were the darkroom printing
sessions we had in the kitchen of the house I grew up in.
I still remember the orange glow of the safelight, and the
strange smells of the chemicals and the "magic" of the image
appearing in the developer tray. I was probably only about 6 years old
when he first started showing me the darkroom processes.
I became a US Navy photographer in 1981, and have been using
a camera for part of my living ever since then. I know my dad
was very proud of my work as a photographer, and that means a lot to me.

I loved the pics of the First Baptist Church in Roff. My Grandparents lived and died in Roff Ok in 1981 and 1986. They were members at that church and my own Dad, was the youth minister there in 73 and 74. I spent many Sundays in that church in the early and late 70's. I used to spend time balancing on the retaining wall next to the street and having sword fights w/Catalpa tree bean pods, against imaginary foes and sometimes friends. Your pics of that Church brought back many memories and very good ones in a time an era that seems to have been lost now.
