With these images I want to bring to light the plight of millions of shelter animals. I feel sadness when looking at these animals, but know there is a more positive side to animal rescue. I am getting together images of former shelter animals who have been adopted by loving families, giving them a chance at the lives they deserve. These animals are here because of our negligence and it is our responsibility to care for them. Animal welfare is usually a last-priority social cause, but the way we treat animals in America is a dirty secret we ignore while we spend tons of money on things such as the "war" against terrorism. Reverence for life seems to be disappearing in this country and the world, and this trend is apparent in how we treat each other, as well as our animals. Efforts to re-instill reverence for life will hopefully ripple across humanity and help improve how we all treat all living things.
