Forest Fire Lookout Towers #2

This is the Flagtail Mountain Lookout Tower
located about 10 miles south of the tower in the first gallery.
It was built in 1966 and the elevation is 6585 feet but seems much higher when you are there. There are 74 steps to get to the top of the tower, which is 53 feet high.
I did not take any photos of the inside because the people who work here
had some company but were kind enough to let me walk around the outside platform
and get some shots of the beautiful, fantastic view in all directions.
What a great experience !
This is not an easy job. The people who staff these towers spend all day , from daylight to dark looking for smoke or any signs of a fire and then use a 2 way radio to call it in.Then spend the night in a trailer and start again the next day.
All supplies including water has to be hauled up this tower and if you need to use the restroom, well.....it is 74 steps down and back up !
More photos soon !
