Common wisdom has it that aurora hunting during the full moon makes no sense, because the moonlight will overpower faint auroras.
I thought it would be fun to check this for myself, and thus, I planned my winter trip to the Finnish Lapland to coincide with the period of full moon.
Very happy to report that there is no problem seeing auroras even if the moon is blazing. I was wondering is to use the word 'blazing' here, but then, just look at all the detail in the snow and the bushes on the shore.
What is more, walking around in snow-covered, moonlit landscape is a lot of fun. Once your eyes get accustomed to the dark, it is amazing how much you can see.
