All roads lead to church...

This is the cathedral in Gniezno, historically one of the most important churches in Poland. Gniezno was the first capital of Poland, starting with the politically-motivated christening of the King Mieszko in the 10th century.

The cathedral was established at this location in 11th or 12th century, and experienced a number of fires and mishaps over the centuries.

In 1809, the French army installed a military warehouse in the Cathedral which was removed when Napoleon's troops left the area. In 1939, following the invasion of Poland, the Germans converted the temple into a concert hall. In 1945, a fire broke out caused by the intentional incendiary artillery shelling by the Red Army.
