Built in the late thirties in the forests of what is now north-western Poland, this Wehrmacht officer training center of Gross-Born was used by Guderian, Rommel and other german high staff until 1945, when the place was taken over by the Red Army. Soviet troops stationed in this fenced off, exterritorial garrison named Borne-Sulinowo until 1992. The casino had been used as a local cultural center - among others serving as music school, cinema, concert hall for a thousand people, restaurant and a library. I was unable to determine whether the current sad state of devastation is work of the retreating Russians or of the current Polish inhabitants. Fascinating place anyways ...
