Tangled Strangler Fig Roots

The seed of this strangler fig tree was probably deposited on a branch by a bird high up in host tree. Over many years the extensive roots of the strangler fig grow down towards the forest floor enclosing the host tree and taking root in the soil below. Eventually the host tree will die leaving an intricate pattern of tree roots.
