Flinders Island

Flinders Island is 60kms off the north eastern Tasmania and is the largest of some 80 island in Bass Strait between the coast of Tasmania and Wilsons Promotory in Victoria and is a remnant of the land bridge which joined Tasmania and mainland Australia 12000 - 18000 years ago. The island is 65 kms long and 37 at its widest. I recently spent a week exploring some of the diverse features of this remote island- tall forests and fern gullies, clambering up granite peaks, wandering along sandy beaches and rocky outcrops and relaxing beside the turquoise waters. I also had the opportunity to enjoy the company of the local residents and soak up some of the island's unique history. As I add images you'll meet some of my walking companions and, I hope, enjoy the charm of this fascinating island. Generally the gallery will reflect each day's activities. Enjoy!
