A Vietnam Vet who served in the 1960s is holding his dog tag. The notch in the dog tag is functional. If a soldier died on the battlefield, the dog tag was placed in his mouth between his teeth. The notch was supposed to help the dog tag remain in place after being wedged between the incisors.
