Pastor (Reverend) Phelps from Kansas brought a handful of his Baptist followers to Minnesota from their home in Kansas to protest against gay lifestyles and the groups that support gays. This includes the Catholic Church pictured here that welcomes gay parishioners to its services. The Baptist protestors were met by a small counter-protest group. People passing by in cars yelled at the hate mongers and told them to "go home." The children yelled back "you are going to hell."

The bible says of all gifts the Greatest is Love : ] Maybe these people just forgot that. It is not good to hate anyone. The bible says red, and yellow, black and white we are precious in his sight. You have to know that bible books were written by men. You ever wonder why one chapter says one thing and another something else? Sometimes it gets confusing figuring out what it means. Different men wrote different chapters. Jesus, Buddah, and others show us how to love and tell us to not judge others. Remember Jesus said let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone.He came to show us how to love.He he gave up his life for us. He could have saved himself. Religions are made by men. One religion tells you do this another do that. I think some things they practice God does not want. It is of men's ideas not his. God is love and loves us all and that is good : ]

Listen carefully. I know that many of you don't believe in religion or believe strongly in your own personal religions but hear this. Our lives God or not was meant for one thing.....Survival. Every human on this earth NEEDS to survive. It is writen in your genes as well as mine. Social events and ways of life are just things that empires have to have for a sense in order. I myself do believe in God, but not just any god. That is why I am doing studies about the Bible and other books to see what happened and why words were changed. The guidance on how to live life properly as far as surviving, the Bible does give us concrete ways to live. But if I were to rejoice in the death of others wouldn't that make me a killer/sinner? The Bible teaches to love one another but at the same time I read a story in the bible where God commands his servant to take his army and destroy a certain city. That is a contridiction of my emotions. I wander if God would be mad at me because I would not destroy a city filled with sin with my army because in my mind it is sin to kill. The only thing I know that God is of peace BUT he himself is THE JUDGE. I cannot scold anyone on earth BUT I can WARN you of trouble and I think thats what the phelps are forgeting to do. They don't EXPLAIN well enough. Sorry phelps but you have to do more than hold up signs because not every one can inturpret you beliefs. I swear on my life I will make an understanding for everyone and say to the whole world one day, and it will be soo concrete and plain to understand for every soul that it will be know as the LAST MESSAGE. 1 in all, all in 1, much love as I can give to the next human...........and maybe even animals.........but mainly my kind.

I will never understand why people would want to believe and worship such an ignorant god that promotes hate in such small matters when he himself isn't guilty of innocent murders. Why does being gay bother so many people? Because it's a sin? I don't see people having their children protesting to rape and murder..but being gay is really what's wrong with the world? That's just pathetic

"Light a candle for the sinners. Set the world on fire" These people live in a twisted state of reality. While they are protected by freedom of speech, this is just sick. We ALL sin, that is what humans do and it really does not matter what religion you are hopelessly devoted to. But to blame gays for the nearly 3,000 dead and be proud to proclaim to the world that you are HAPPY that these people died in the most horrible single act of violence seems sided towards the very people who executed the attacks. This is the reason why there is the JIHAD - the holy war has begun, and all you are doing is using the name of GOD - who says to LOVE YOUR BROTHERS - to promote HATE. You are equal to the Nazis, the KKK and every single terrorist group that kills innocent and even deeply religious people, not just american soldiers. Women and children. Children! They are too young to sin. WAKE UP! Learn to love, not hate.

I like the verse given by hotshotz (1 John 4:8-9) We are also Christ's Ambassadors- 2 Corinthians 5:20 - Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. Notice the ... we beg you on behalf of Christ ... Not- We damn you, you're going to hell. We are to love everyone and are to be Christ's love to the world so they may be reconciled to him. Mr. Phelps and family/followers are only pushing people farther from the love of God, not drawing them to his unfathomable love. You foolish people are heaping up judgement on yourselves. As for these children you are misleading, You ought to read Matthew 18:6-7; ...but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. (v.7)Woe to the World because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! Mr. Phelps and followers: You had better rethink your relationship with God and repent of the sins you are doing and of all the people you are leading astray or you might be surprised at which judgement seat you will be present at!

Homosexuality is a sin? Possibly. So gay people are sinners some say. Who did Jesus eat supper with? The Sinners, those who were hated by society. We all sin, Everyone of has sinned and will sin in the future. But Jesus offers us forgiveness if we seek it. People take the Bible to literally. It is moral of the story that is important. You CANNOT base your faith and religion only a few scriptures. All scriptures are in the Bible for a reason, Some are obvious, some are a mystery. One of the main messages in the Bible is to love one another, Put others before yourself. Imagine if everyone did a such a thing, how great and wonderful the world could be. Such a thing will not happen because it is hard to resist the temptation of the devil. Anything Involving hate in anyway (not anger, anger is not hate) is not from God. God does not hate. Be careful Jesus said in Matthew 24:23-26 "At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!’ or 'There He is!’ do not believe it. For false Christ's and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, 'There He is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here He is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it." There are many people who have already been sent astray. Have Faith in God. Do not look in hate upon others. Nobody on this earth is any better than anyone else. We must accept everyone for who they are, no matter their race, sexuality, physical appearance, Wealth, or past. We must find love in each other in order to find love in God. Love is not Sex.

When will be you religious people realize that so many wars and fights only start because you believe in a god. God is the problem. This would be a better place if there were no religions. Gays and Lesbians are normal humans that deserve respect as everyone. ...and please don't read the bible. It is a book that people wrote and that was often changed in its history and has nothing to do with a thing like a god.

God hates sin and everyone who has read the bible very well will admire that homosexuality is immoral and a big sin therefore God hates it.The gays and the lesbians are all aware of it but because they have no better proof to defend themselves they say anything they can to defend themselves.The common words are " I'm born that way" but remember the bible says you should be born again.Secondly, we have natural laws governing human life and this law doesn't matter if you are christian,buddist,hindu,moslem or what ever.It's unatural for man to make love with a man or for a woman to make love with a woman.Mans love partner should be woman and the same as woman's love / sex partner should be man. I call gays sick people.Thank you!

God does NOT hate America.God does not hate homosexuals. The only thing God hates is sin - and only sin, God loves sinners, because everybody is a sinner. Nobody can honestly say they've never done a single bad thing in their entire life. It's not humanly possible.. And these idiots are using him as a scapegoat becuase they're afraid to admit that they're the prejudice scum who can't respect people who are different.

He who does not love does not know God, for GOD IS LOVE." 1John 4:8-9 There are many who place labels upon themselves for various reasons, but the true contents of the heart is revealed not by the label they wear, and not in the words they utter, but in the very actions of their lives. As one noted Christian teacher said, "it matters not what label you put on an empty bottle." I am a Christian; I go to a Baptist Church, but I am a CHRISTIAN, period, not a Baptist. ALL sin makes knowing God personally, and receiving His love and forgiveness impossible. Jesus Christ came to give his life for sinful people\ALL sinful people, which we ALL are\so that we might be able to have an open relationship with God. If those who call themselves Chistians, and yet walk around toting signs bearing words of hatred, would realize their own sinful nature, they would truly repent of (which just means "turn away from") their own sinful ways. They would fall on their knees pleading for mercy and forgiveness from a loving God who is all too eager to forgive and embrace them, and they would become truly Christ-like (which is what "Christian" means). Instead of hating and driving others farther away from the greatest Love in the universe, they would embrace those with whom they so ardently dissagree and try to show them the Love of God. For those who question if God is real, let me say only that God is the most real entity in the universe, because He created the universe. I did not believe this 5 years ago; I was an atheist, but God has revealed the Truth to me only because He know that in my heart I wanted to know. Do you? Hell is also real, but it is not God's desire that anyone should go there. People themselves CHOOSE Hell because they reject God's Love and GRACE out of a rebellious, stubborn, sinful heart. That GRACE is the gift of Jesus Christ, God's one and only Son, who loved us and gave His life to pay the penalty required for our sin. (John 3:16) No God does not hate America, and God does not hate gay people. God loves all of those whom He has made. God rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:1) and who desire to know Him, and God seeks to draw to Himself those who have repeatedly rejected Him. The only thing God truly hates is SIN\ALL SIN, and homosexuality is only one of a myriad of sin committed by mankind. Jesus said that to hate your brother (fellow man) was the same as committing murder because God looks on the Heart. I had the distinct displeasure to be in touch, via email, with several of the Phelps clan a few years ago. They are a very hate filled, fearful family. I actually feel sorry for them. Thanks for sharing the images.

If God is to be God, God would love all human beings, whether you like it or not, whether you associate with people you diasgree with or not. To suggest that God is using natural force, just as the biblical flooding story, to justify His anger towards human transgression or immorality, is to put God into the unwanted list of genocide and impotence. When people got drowned, women and children got raped, shops rooted, familes broken, homes and hopes destroyed, are you saying God will be happy about it? What's the difference between this God that you believe and the God that those terrorists worship? Are human transgression and human lifes are 2 different things and should be dealt with differently? Have we just made our God so narrow minded just because we are narrow minded, if there is really a God. I don't believe hatred should have any place in any genuine religion whatsoever.

Ells brings up an important point -- not all Baptists are like the people depicted in these photos. So maybe it is inappropriate to call them BAPTIST HATEMONGERS, just as it is probably inappropriate to label someone an Islamic Terrorist. After all, we didn't call the abortion-clinic bomber a Christian Terrorist, did we? The way language and photos are used has an effect on people's stereotypes/prejudices in ways that are not immediately transparent.

And just yesterday a co-worker told me that Katrina hit New Orleans because the town tolerated and encouraged things like Mardi Gras and Day of Decadence (some Gay sponsored event). I told him that I did not think The Ineffable, even if God did hate Gays, would waste straights and children to get at a few. He persisted, "See, the town is destroyed." I had to just turn away. It should be said that Phelps and his Westboro Baptist church is made up of just him and mainly members of his family. The Southern Baptist Conference even sued them to block their usage of 'Baptist' in their title. Unfortunately, they continue to bring a bad name to Baptists and Christians in general. Recently they protested at the funerals for two Tennessee National Guardsmen who were killed in Iraq, claiming they were struck down by God for defending 'Gay America'. It's sad that children are dragged into it. The Westboro cult is about on par with many radical Muslim extremists - they preach hatred and intolerance and use children as pawns. Sad.

I think if people who counter protested against Phelps used a different approach to confront Phelps and his ilk, it would confuse him. Phelps and his type I think enjoy the counter protests where people bring signs and yell. I think a better way is if he were ignored and people would just turn thier backs to him and his followers. Stony silence is a better protest tool than jabbering away...you'll never change Phelp's mind anyway.
