Having gone through the gamut of burning and dodging the stump in order to reveal form, the edges were somewhat disappointingly soft. But I liked the range of tones, with small highlights around the cavity, and towards the right corner, which balanced the darkness below. I applied the pen and ink effect which worked nicely to amplify the ridges on the stump.
