Buttons

If there's anything lowlier, more common and ordinary than a button,
I don't know what it is.
Each one is a little fragment of plastic, bone, glass, metal, shell or wood
that holds our clothes together.

I've discarded refrigerators and computers, TVs and even a car once.
But I've never thrown away a button.
If I find one I plunk it into the button box where it nestles with
buttons saved by my mother, aunts and grandmothers.

Love this shot, kat, ... Wonderful colours!
I, too, have a collection of buttons that I inheritied from women in my family ... each button has it's own little story ... the red one from my favourite dress when I was 8 or the black one from Grandma's coat ... simple treasures! :o)

My favorite childhood memory is of sitting in my grandmother's attic and sorting her button jar(s). When she died, she left me the buttons. I love this picture!! What a fab idea!!

I love this image. What a great idea. I inherited my mother's sewing machine and much to my delight the small right hand drawer was filled to the brim with buttons. :)

Also something that hasn't changed much in thousands of years though it's variations have always been nearly infinite, you could find an voctorian age button that looks just like one being made today ... great shot!
