The play by Alfred Jarry, created riots in the streets of Paris when first performed in 1896.
The play is considered to be the first absurdist drama, and is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth, satirizing European society with a main character that is cruel, gluttonous, and grotesque.
The play was hated for its lack of respect to royalty, religion and society, its vulgarity and scatology, brutality and low comedy.
It is sure to amuse and insult everyone.
