The WWII Canso bomber was carrying 4 depth bombs when it crashed in 1945 just after takeoff from Tofino airfield. One of the engines failed completely just after takeoff, and the pilot had neither the height nor the speed to do anything other than fly straight into the trees. The plane was carrying 12 who all survived the crash.
A small crater along the path of the crash, now a pond, is supposedly from when the doomed bomber dropped its payload shortly before crashing.
