Muray (ancient Inca agricultural site - they utilized the different climate zones created by this terracing to select best crops growing at different altitudes. Each layer consists of rock, gravel, sand, clay and dirt. Water will permeate the soil until it reaches clay then move to the next layer. Lava rock was used to retain heat so the plants never experienced frost.
