Hi Frank! Yes the shot was taken with the 50-200, from about 10 feet away. The bird (Dakota)is a captive bird. She was in a show at our local county fair last summer.

I know what you mean about build quality. The top rank Canon and Nikon cameras and lenses are superb, 1D and D2x, 'L' lenses etc., but their consumer stuff is all built to a much lower standard. The E-1 and Oly 'high grade' lenses seemed like a great way to get top quality gear at affordable prices to me. When you spend your time crawling around in swamps chasing herons a sealed camera and lenses just seems smart to me.

Hi .. fantastic shot.. curious, how far were you from the bird? Was it a 50-200 lens you used? Just picked up a number of lenses and 2 E-1 cameras, just couldn't go for Nikon or Canon, build quality did not impress me.
Thanks
