The original building was planned by C.L. Engel in 1836, and the library was constructed in 1840-45.
The Rotunda Annex was designed by Gustaf Nyström in 1902, and the construction was finished in 1906-7.
The internal pictures are from the Cupola Hall and the Rotunda. The South and North Hall was not addressed at this shoot.
Most of the books are stored 18 meters under the library building in an underground "cave"; Kirjaluola, drilled in solid rock. This space, not accessible to the public, is 57600 cubic meters.
