Oh well, better i don't talk anything about joining now. Anyway, in old times the length of the walls were determined by the length of the logs. But there is more in it, more than my sleepy mind can figure out now...
Aligned? Stip? My dictionary is bad... And so is my head.
Anyway, here are horizontal doors like on a Tartu photo you wondered.
If you asked about the main building, there the logs aren't joined in any random way, usually it's just one in one wall. But i'll show you in some other photo, how they may be joined.

I like the way the wood is aligned. Vertical on the main building (is each stip only one contious plank/log or actually is it many joined together?) and the doors, with horizontal formation.
