I think it is the same here, round in old, square in new. And many many kinds of them both...
Actually this is the only light button in the wall that is somehow in my rooms.

the very old houses here have light switches so. my house and most other houses have the square light switch boxes now. i like it round. it feels better. squares are quite awkwards sometimes.
