Snowy Afternoon

After hearing that there was a Snowy Owl hanging out about 75 miles west of me, I had to make a run over there to see him. Gorgeous bird. Normally not found in Pennsylvania, they occasionally come down in the winter. This is the only snowy I've heard of in Pa. this year.

Very cool, Moses! Is this the guy that's been hanging around I-99 in Centre County?

You ought to head out to Montour Preserve! There have been thousands and thousands of snow geese there lately, and Eric and I also saw about 20-25 trumpeter swans as well as some hooded mergansers there yesterday.

I've never seen the parking lot full at Montour Preserve, but it was yesterday (Sunday).

The Snowy's have been sighted in December in the Kutztown area (no luck. missed that one) and in a dairy farm area of Belleville, near Lewistown in Jan/Feb. (didn't make the trip from Hazleton for that one). Got lucky on 2/18 at Bellfonte. Thank goodness for www.birdingonthe.net
