mall at Grand Rapids, MN

...I was in Grand Rapids visiting MY BROTHER AND HIS WIFE
on Spetember 11, 2001...I drove into town and
made this photo of the big flag over the mall
lowered to half staff...the previous day we
were all happy and SITTING AROUND A CAMPFIRE and after the morning
of 9/11 we didn't leave the TV except to
cook, shower, or sleep...

It was late at night here. About to turn the TV off when the tone of Peter Jennings voice ( abc in the US ) made me look at what he was saying. Two minutes later the second plane flew into the tower. The horrors continue with our Australian Embassy in Jakata being bombed this week. More innocent lives lost. This is a nice tribute.

I first saw the atrocity while on the way home from picking Liam up from school. The bus passed an electrical shop that had TVs in the window, and the image was of the second plane flying into the WTC. I just thought that it was some action film. It wasn't until I got back into the house and Liam wondered where the cartoons were, that I realised what had happened. This is a very nice tribute, Mary.

Thanks for posting. I work in Washington, DC and recall how helpless I felt talking to a flight attendant whose friend had just died in the Pentagon crash.

How fitting that you used a shot you took that day. I remember I was 3 months pregnant with my son Connor at the time, and Tyler was soon to be 3. My husband called that morning to tell me to turn on the news. I sat in shock and horror as I watched, just in time to see the live footage of the 2nd plane striking. Our TV didn't leave channels with 911 coverage for two weeks.
