Our final stop was the camp Little Mombo, which is in famous Okavango Delta. Because we had stayed in three different camps owned by Wilderness Safaris, we received an unexpected treat - a helicopter ride from Vumbura Plains to Little Mombo. This was my first trip in a helicopter and it provided a much better view of the landscapes we were flying over than the small aircraft typically used.
We also had a surprise encounter with Legadema - a female leopard who was the subject of the National Geographic program "Eye of the Leopard", which chronicles the first three years of Legadema's life. We were there not quite two years after filming stopped so she would have been coming up on five.
Little Mombo also provided us an excellent opportunity to spend some time with a lion pride that had a number of small cubs. The first day we saw them, they had all been feasting on a dead and "well aged" giraffe (don't know if it was a kill or just a lucky find for them), and they were all covered with gore. However, even a lion cub covered in gore can be cute.
