Tawny Emperor

Asterocampa clyton

This tawny emperor was relaxing in the low-growing vegetation when we found it along one of the trails at the refuge. This was one of the species of butterfly we rarely saw at any of the butterfly gardens, but often found out along the trails. The same was true of snout butterflies.
