Calephelis perditalis
This pair of mating rounded metalmarks was just privately doing their thing when we happened past them with a camera. Call us voyeurs, but they were so beautifully fresh and colorful, we couldn't resist snapping off a few quick shots. We really prefer the 180mm or longer 1:1 macro lenses for butterfly photography, as that extra focal length allows for some working distance from the butterflies so we can take images like this without disturbing the natural processes going on when we arrive on the scene.
