It's always special to see a bird species for the first time. To get a picture of it the first time is extra special. This has been true for me as I have added the common birds as well as the less common and the occasional rare bird to my galleries. This week I had it happen twice, this bird and a Calliope Hummingbird. The Calliope can be seen here; http://www.pbase.com/jvhigbee/image/97156870
This bird, a Wandering Tattler, is designated unusual in Grays Harbor Co. where I saw it fly onto the rocks just outside the Marina in Westport. When I first viewed it through the lens I thought it was a Yellowlegs but realized quickly enough that it wasn't and, due to having looked at a picture that was posted last year by the Sullivan's, the possible ID came to mind.
Unfortunately, there was no way I could get closer and this is the best I could do. More than good enough for now, and a challenge for the future.
