This image and the one from 2/25/2012 (pbase #141906457) are good for comparing the EF 1.4x II extender and the EF 2x III extenders.
This one, the 2x, actually seems to me to be a hair sharper than the 1.4x but that could be because the distance on the one with the 1.4x is about 15% more.
