It is a bit hard to see in this photo, but this cross section of the floor featuring a tile mosaic is actually made up of many layers. The mosaics seen on display in museums reflect only the top, tiled section of the floor. Additionally, the large brown/red rock in the upper right corner is a lava stone (most likely imported from Italy) used below the floors to heat the water and floors of the bath.
