Asakusa, a suburb of Tokyo, is the site of the annual Samba carnival, now in its 28th year.
The drenching rain this year did not lessen the enthusiasm of the participants, or the crowd.
It shows a very different side of Japan to the usual image of reserved formality. It also highlights
the existence and influence of a significant Brazilian community, many of whom are of Japanese descent.
