The city of Fort Wayne has had it's share of flooding in the past due to the three rivers that meet in the city, the St. Joeseph, the St. Mary's and the Maumee. We have a creek that runs through the city also, the Spy Run Creek. Several years ago, the city made some improvements that were supposed to help alleviate the flooding problems. It seems the last few years have been especially bad with at least one flood each year, really bad along the Spy Run Creek. Every time we have a flood, I go out and take pictures in the worst areas. I talked to this one man during the last flood, he said he was no expert, but he thinks the current flooding problems we have are due to development in the surrounding areas. He said that farmland that flooded during the worst times, was being bought up by developers, built up and turned into new housing additions. Now the floodwaters have no where to go but into the city.
Hi Judy, Yes, that development of farm land where the flood water went in the past is very likely the reason. Water does not sink into asphalt and concrete like it does into farmland. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully not to many people suffered great loss. Jim

This looks awful. We had a lot of flooding in the UK this summer, fortunately it didn't affect the area where i live
