While I was in Manitoba in June, Dorothy and I drove to Neepawa, ostensibly to see Purple Martins and the tallest Purple Martin House in the world. But the Bird Sanctuary proved to be the highlight of our day. We had never seen this type of interaction with different bird families and it was fascinating to watch the little drama unfold. When we arrived, the Mute Swans were out in the middle of the small lake and we feared we wouldn't get to see them close-up. But a short time later, we could see one of the parents heading for shore and were amazed at what followed!
